It just so happens that once awhile, rappers decide to release previously unreleased gems that did not make it onto a project for whatever reason. This is exactly what happened here with Chicago emcee Vic Mensa and this track “Children Of The Sun”, which was recorded back in 2010. The important thing to keep in mind here is that Vic is only 20 years old currently, so he made this song when he was around 17! Vic’s rhymes along with outstanding production by Thelonious Martin result in an impressive collaboration worthy of much praise. Mensa released his positively received mixtape Innanetape earlier this year and has been gaining popularity alongside former fellow group member Chance the Rapper. Listen to the song below and expect big things from Vic in 2014.

Final Consensus: Wow the second I heard this song I regretted that I didn’t have the time to revisit Vic’s mixtape Innanetape today. I was impressed by that body of work, but honestly Mensa’s rhymes on this song impressed me even more….especially considering the fact he was 17 when this song was made! I find that to be remarkable and the soulful beat provided by Thelonious Martin was top-notch as well. Even if you aren’t familiar with Vic Mensa, do yourself a favor and take a listen to this one. I guarantee you will be impressed.
