Elzhi is a Detroit rapper that we are happy to see back in the spotlight. Elzhi released The Preface all the way back in 2008 and also paid homage to Nas with his mixtape Ellmatic. Both projects were on point, but the fans have been thirsty for new material from Elzhi who is a top-notch and somewhat underrated lyricist. Thankfully, we will officially be getting an album from Elzhi in 2014 due to his successful Kickstarter campaign. Elzhi went the route of others such as Spike Lee who have used Kickstarter as a platform for the fans to support projects they want to see come to fruition. Elzhi has already achieved his goal of $25,000 dollars worth of support and, in turn, he has been releasing rough drafts of new songs we may be hearing in full in the future.

Elzhi talked with the folks over at 2DopeBoyz about the new album, the effect of Kickstarter, as well as other inspirations ranging from J Dilla to Quentin Tarantino. Click here to read the interview and take a listen to the snippets of new songs Elzhi has been releasing below! “Can’t Lose” is my personal favorite, but each of them has me very excited for what’s on the way.
