I became an instant fan of Exile the second I heard his collaboration album Below The Heavens with Blu, a project widely recognized as an underground classic. The producer is known for his chopped up soulful samples and the old school vibe his beats create are something welcomed in 2013. Knowing this, it makes sense that his musical influences are the likes of J Dilla and Madlib.

In the video below, we get the privilege of seeing Exile work his magic on the MPC. For those who don’t know, the MPC is a combination drum machine and sampler that allows a producer to upload a variety of sounds and manipulate them in whichever way they so fit. The machine has long been a staple in hip-hop and Exile is known as someone who specializes in its use.

If you listened to Jay Z’s latest album Magna Carta…Holy Grail, you are well aware of the project’s two most popular tracks “Holy Grail” and “FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt”. These are two of the songs Exile chooses to flip on the MPC. Needless to say, watching him operate is extremely impressive and I am not hesitant in saying that what he creates here may be more enjoyable than the original versions of the songs.

Watch the video below and prepare to be blown away if you have yet to see the MPC master work.
