JMSN is a multi-faceted artist that can do it all from singing to mixing to producing. He went through a creative transition period in 2012 as he deviated from his previous pop-rock sound and delved fully into alternative R&B on his album Priscilla. The project took on darker emotional themes over spaced out production and was well-received. Tracks like “Alone” and “Do You Remember The Time” in particular were stand outs and we’ve had our eye on JMSN since then. From strong background vocals on Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city album to powerful feature placements (ex. Game’s song “Pray” ft. J Cole), JMSN has stayed busy and also released his own project Pllaje last November. “The One” has gained a lot of attention and JMSN has put out a self-directed music video for the track that is provocatively captivating.

The sexual imagery and tone of the video fits with the alluring feel of the song as it displays performance art at its finest. Visually surreal, the video is an impressive example of using expression and movement in order to stimulate a feeling both frightening and beautiful. It is always nice when an artist explains what goes into their music and JMSN provided his thoughts on what the song represents:

“We’re all afraid of things we don’t understand. So we put up a wall; a defense mechanism. We tear down things we don’t understand, as if they’re wrong. Right and wrong is relative. To each their own. This song is about wanting to find someone or something that could be the answer to all your problems, but questioning it; because deep down inside you know the only one that can solve the problems you have is yourself.”

While we did not think Pllaje matched the caliber of Priscilla, both projects had plenty of shining moments and “The One” lived up to its name on Pllaje. You can watch the stunning visuals of the track below and let us know what you think!
