The LOX are veterans in hip-hop having had great success as a group since 1994. Consisting of East Coast rappers Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch, the trio started off on Bad Boy Records in the mid 1990’s and that’s all they needed to catapult their careers. Money, Power & Respect and We Are The Streets were two albums that had a great impact in the late 90’s/early 2000’s and although the group was on a long hiatus since then, they have made their return. Each artist has had a successful solo career outside of The LOX, but fans have been looking for them to reunite and 2014 is the year that wish will come into fruition. The group released a surprise EP titled The Trinity last month as a preview of what is to come. Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch all sat down with Sway on Sway In The Morning to talk about their past, present, and future as a group along with other hot topics in hip-hop.

Back when The LOX first signed to Bad Boy Records, their fates became unknown after the murder of Notorious B.I.G. Luckily, they were able to recover from such a huge loss to the label as well as the overall culture of hip-hop. Hard work and determination led the group to success and they felt now was the time to reunite to give the fans what they have been craving. While other groups (such as the Wu Tang Clan) have struggled to reignite the chemistry that is essential in the recording process, for The LOX it was a seamless transition as the trio have never really stopped working together. Although the hip-hop industry is vastly different than it was 15/20 years ago with the presence of the Internet and social media , The LOX pride themselves on sticking to their essence musically while other veterans have unsuccessfully tried to latch onto the current day trends.

The interview offers a lot of insight on how the rap game has evolved, especially coming from the perspective of the trio who have seen and done it all. Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch also did some in-studio performances of records off The Trinity EP and the project made some noise around New York as 2013 came to a close. You can watch the interview/concert series below as well as stream The Trinity EP. Let us know what you think and if you are excited for the return of The LOX in 2014!
