Older hip-hop heads may remember the name Shabaam Sahdeeq from the time period when Rawkus Records was flourishing and at its peak. The Soundbombing and Lyricist Lounge series released by Rawkus were considered as classic projects by many and Shabaam’s presence played a major role on standout tracks such as “Arabian Nights” (a personal favorite of mine). Fast forward to 2014 and Shabaam is back at it with the release of this single titled “Tranquilo”, which will be featured on his upcoming Keepers Of The Lost Art album. With production provided by Harry Fraud and an appearance from none other than Dave Chappelle in the music video, “Tranquilo” is a strong and hard-hitting first offering from Shabaam Sahdeeq.

“Tranquilo” features Shabaam spitting raw street-themed lyrics over a stellar contemporary boom-bap beat from Harry Fraud. The visuals of the song reflect this and also feature the legendary comedian Dave Chappelle giving a co-sign to the work of Shabaam Sahdeeq. This shout-out should definitely give “Tranquilo” more exposure and it is a well-deserved plug for the veteran emcee. Shabaam’s Keepers Of The Lost Art album is set to be released on April 22nd and we will certainly be anticipating more solid tracks like “Tranquilo”.
