In terms of lyrical topics, at this stage of the game you know what you get when it comes to Wiz Khalifa; raps about smoking weed, bad bitches, nice cars, and Bombay gin. The make or break it factor for Wiz his is production choices as his early mixtapes provided smooth vibes that perfectly fit his style, and even some of the harder-hitting bangers were well-crafted. However, Wiz is in album mode now as he preps the release of his upcoming project Blacc Hollywood. This week we received the first single off the project titled “We Dem Boyz”, and it is produced by Detail who is known for his work with YMCMB. “We Dem Boyz” is set up to be an anthem and live-show killer for Wiz, but that’s about the only positive thing we can say about the track.

“We Dem Boy” serves its purpose as the rattling production along with the heavy use of Auto-Tune is sure to pump up the crowd at any Wiz concert. But the track is extremely repetitive and does not bring out the best in Wiz in terms of both his lyrics and delivery. It will be interesting to see if any kind of negative reaction gets back to Wiz about the song, because in that case “We Dem Boyz” could easily just be labeled as a promo single and not get placed on the album. Only time will tell, but one thing we know for sure is that Wiz is capable of much more and the best of Blacc Hollywood is yet to come.

Listen to “We Dem Boyz” below and let us know what you think!
