We last heard from Common about a month ago when he released the track “War” and news came about of an upcoming album with longtime collaborator No I.D.  titled Nobody Smiling. While fans were mostly pleased with “War”, this recently released single “Made In Black America” is sure to have an overwhelming positive response. An aggressive yet socially conscious Common is paired with TDE member Ab-Soul, who comes through with one of the best guest appearances we’ve heard from him in quite some time. The two sound in harmony together over the exceptional production and “Made In Black America” has us highly anticipating more music from the veteran emcee from the Chi.

No I.D. provides a funky guitar-strummed beat on “Made In Black America” for Common to fire off his lyrical darts that comment on the state of black America in relation to hip-hop. And while Common’s provides an inspired effort on the track, it is the mind-bending wordplay and technical prowess of Ab-Soul that leaves the listener impressed. We can’t go as far as saying Ab-Soul beat out Common on his own track, but it was refreshing to hear Soulo spit at the level we were accustomed to hearing from him on Control System. Nobody Smiling is shaping up to be a great project for Common and “Made In Black America” will likely be a standout representative record from the album.
