We have been posting a lot about the Flatbush Zombies recently, but not without proper reasoning and here we have another chance to highlight the New York trio who step outside of the box feature-wise on “97.92”. On this track the Flatbush Zombies team up with California hardcore punk band Trash Talk who have a connection to hip-hop through their previous work with Odd Future. And while both groups are more so known for their intense in-your-face style, they take a step back on “97.92” as they provide us with a gritty record that scales back on abrasiveness yet certainly is not void of ruggedness. The unlikely pairing proves to be a successful one as “97.92” comes together as a fine blending of each group’s respective genres.

“97.92” could have easily been a rowdy rap-rock barn burner, but Trash Talk and the Flatbush Zombies opted for a different route as the track more so resembles a boom-bap cypher. This is due to the exceptional production by Trash Talk guitarist Garrett Stevenson as he creates the perfect platform for the Flatbush Zombies’ charismatic verses. Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice, and Erick Arc Elliott all flow on the beat effortlessly as they continue to display their wide-ranging talent as a group. This collaboration will appear on the upcoming Converse-sponsored compilation CONS EP VOL. 1 and is sure to be a standout track on the project.
