We were a huge fan of Vince Staple’s Stolen Youth EP that was released last year. Once known as just an Odd Future affiliated rapper, over the past year or so Vince Staples has developed his own individual artistic identity and hence made a name for himself in the world of hip-hop. 2014 is setting up to be a breakthrough year for Staples as he just got off tour with Odd Future and will now be joining TDE artists ScHoolboy Q and Isaiah Rashad on their Oxymoron tour. Along with his presence at live shows, Vince Staples will be releasing a new LP titled Shyne Coldchain Vol. II that will be largely produced by the legendary No I.D. Staples decided to drop the first offering from the project “Nate”, which features the always exceptional singer James Fauntleroy. The lead single is a smooth cut that is sure to create even more buzz for Staples before his album is released.

“Nate” has some standout production from Scoop DeVille, who uses heavy drums and soul sampling to create a boom-bap feel to the record. Vince Staples laces the song with memorable verses that features the California rapper reminiscing on his life before his rise in the world of hip-hop. With DeVille incorporating well-placed synths for James Fauntleroy’s layered vocal performance, “Nate” becomes a complete musical package that displays signs of growth for Vince Staples. Shyne Coldchain Vol. II is shaping up to be an exceptional project from the young Staples and we can’t wait to see how he shines over No I.D’s production.

Listen to “Nate” below and take a look at the full Shyne Coldchain Vol. II tracklisting.
