Stat Quo is an artist who has experienced many ups and downs when it comes to the business aspects of the music industry. The Atlanta rapper had major buzz back in the early-mid 2000’s after linking up with Dr. Dre and Eminem, which eventually lead to signing a record deal with Aftermath Entertainment and Shady Records. However, the relationship never panned out as Stat Quo went through several delays in the releasing of his debut album and the project never materialized as expected. Despite his early setbacks, Stat Quo has stayed the course and officially dropped his second album titled ATLA on February 25th. One of the standouts on the project is the track “The Way It Be”, which features a Southern hip-hop legend in Scarface

“The Way It Be” is co-produced by Steve Esterferm and Dr. Dre, with Dre’s involvement being obvious as the beat features his signature keys and melody. Stat Quo sounds right at the home on the track and remnants of the Aftermath chemistry are present. Nevertheless, it is the guest verse from Scarface that carries the song to the next level and after being rounded out by the strong vocals on the hook, “The Way It Be” proves to be the complete package. So although Stat Quo never fulfilled his potential in the early stages of his career, it is worth your time to take a listen to this track as well as the recently released ATLA album.
