Here we have our first (and long overdue) Throwback Thursday post here at HipToTheGame.com. The legendary hip-hop group De La Soul will be honored first due to the 25 year anniversary of their classic debut album 3 Feet High and Rising, a milestone that many fans celebrated this past week. De La Soul have a cemented legacy in hip-hop due to their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap sub-genre. Everything from their unique sampling to the quirky yet consciously aware style of their lyrics caught the attention of all music fans back in the late 1980’s-early 1990’s. One single off the 3 Feet High and Rising album that largely represented what De La Soul and the Native Tongues posse were all about was “Buddy”. Also featuring appearances from artists such as Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest and Queen Latifah, the song reflects the positivity and Afrocentric nature that had such an impactful influence on De La Soul.

Watch the “Buddy” music video below and listen to 3 Feet High and Rising for old times sake.
