The recent musical output of the legendary Alchemist never ceases to amaze us as the producer has been the mastermind behind several quality projects the last few years. He works with a variety of emcees from both the old and new schools of hip-hop and is fresh off the release of the Lord Steppington album he put out earlier this year with long time collaborator Evidence. As 2014 rolls along, Alchemist has now linked up with a lesser known producer named Budgie for a joint project that will be titled The Good Book. We were recently greeted with the first single from the effort “In Heaven’s Home”, which features two veteran New York rappers in Roc Marciano and Prodigy of Mobb Deep. With the chemistry between Alchemist and these street-certified emcees being proven over the years, it is no surprise that “In Heaven’s Home” is a strong first offering that has our stamp of approval.

“In Heaven’s Home” is an eerie track that features a daunting piano arrangement and standout vocal samples. Both Prodigy and Roc Marciano sound at home over the creeping, yet soulful production as their styles fit nicely with the orchestral vibe of the song. Based off what we’re heard from the first track, it is clear that there is going to be a certain theme behind the release of The Good Book. Alchemist and Budgie have linked up with Frank The Butcher in order to create an unique experience for the fans who purchase this album. The physical packaging for the two-disc set will come in a faux book wrapped in leatherette with gold foil printing and, at least initially, only 1,000 copies will be available. With the use of gospel samples taking the lead in the overall production of the project, we are interested to hear what else comes from The Good Book as additional features include Action Bronson, Domo Genesis, Blu, and A$ton Matthews.
