Vince Staples is one of our favorite rising artists from the West Coast and we have been awaiting his latest project ever since we heard his standout Stolen Youth EP. Well that moment has arrived with the release of mixtape Shyne Coldchain II and we now have visuals for arguably its best song “Nate”, featuring some exceptional vocals from James Fauntleroy. “Nate” is a personal record from Vince Staples that gets into his early childhood and how he idolized his father for all of the wrong reasons. The music video portrays a sad day in the life for a young Vince Staples who has to experience some troubling events at home. “Nate” shows the artistic growth Staples has already developed so young in his promising career and the visuals for the song further enhance its quality. If you have not heard of Vince Staples, you should go ahead and take a listen to this strong body of work.  (more…)

We were a huge fan of Vince Staple’s Stolen Youth EP that was released last year. Once known as just an Odd Future affiliated rapper, over the past year or so Vince Staples has developed his own individual artistic identity and hence made a name for himself in the world of hip-hop. 2014 is setting up to be a breakthrough year for Staples as he just got off tour with Odd Future and will now be joining TDE artists ScHoolboy Q and Isaiah Rashad on their Oxymoron tour. Along with his presence at live shows, Vince Staples will be releasing a new LP titled Shyne Coldchain Vol. II that will be largely produced by the legendary No I.D. Staples decided to drop the first offering from the project “Nate”, which features the always exceptional singer James Fauntleroy. The lead single is a smooth cut that is sure to create even more buzz for Staples before his album is released.  (more…)

While Timbaland has had a huge comeback year in 2013 producing hits for the likes of Justin Timberlake and Jay Z, he has not released a solo album in four years. Well the wait for more Timbo heat is over as the revered producer has been in the lab working on his next LP titled Textbook Timbo. While there is no official release date for the project, we have a strong lead single in “Know Bout Me”, which features a brief opening appearance from Jay Z and more substantial performances by Drake and singer James Fauntleroy.

“Know Bout Me” is a cocky track that reflects the dominating run Timbaland has been on recently. While we can do without his rapping, the song’s production is solid and a perfect beat for Drake to lyrically flex on. From an epic stuttering impression to dropping braggadocios punchlines about Bo Jackson, Drake’s flow on this is impeccable. And with a strong closing from the talented James Fauntleroy as he sings his heavenly vocals, “Know Bout Me” proves to be up to par and lives up to the hype of such a high profile collaboration (even if the Jay Z feature should not be credited).
