Here we have our first (and long overdue) Throwback Thursday post here at HipToTheGame.com. The legendary hip-hop group De La Soul will be honored first due to the 25 year anniversary of their classic debut album 3 Feet High and Rising, a milestone that many fans celebrated this past week. De La Soul have a cemented legacy in hip-hop due to their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap sub-genre. Everything from their unique sampling to the quirky yet consciously aware style of their lyrics caught the attention of all music fans back in the late 1980’s-early 1990’s. One single off the 3 Feet High and Rising album that largely represented what De La Soul and the Native Tongues posse were all about was “Buddy”. Also featuring appearances from artists such as Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest and Queen Latifah, the song reflects the positivity and Afrocentric nature that had such an impactful influence on De La Soul.
