Part of the reason why we have been relatively absent this past week is due to the release of ScHooboy Q’s highly anticipated album Oxymoron. We patiently waited for the project to be leaked and the album was officially released to the public on Tuesday after a great early response from TDE and general hip-hop fans. You guys will have to wait to read our review of the LP, but a sneak peek that will be given away here is that we are huge fans of “Break The Bank”. This track was released awhile back and the second we heard it…we knew that Oxymoron was going to be a force to be reckoned with. ScHoolboy Q has released a music video for the standout song, which gives us just another reason to press the repeat button on this Alchemist produced banger.  (more…)

We recently covered the return of Onyx after they released the music video for their title track “Wakedafucup” off their upcoming album. While we were impressed by that song, veterans Fredro Starr and Sticky Fingaz have us even more anticipated after putting out their latest record “We Don’t F*ckin Care”. The legendary Onyx duo are joined by the unlikely yet practical combination of A$AP Ferg and Sean Price on the track as not one emcee disappoints. Hardcore lyricism prevails on this one with this talented group of rappers excelling over the menacing production provided by the Snowgoons(more…)

50 Cent became a superstar under the Interscope label as he sold over 30 million albums since he signed with them in 2003. However, it was recently announced that 50 Cent has parted ways with Interscope and is now a newly independent artist. While the news marks an end of an era and may be bittersweet for some, those who are still anticipating new music from 50 are celebrating as his upcoming Animal Ambition album finally has a June 3rd release date. In celebration of his newfound industry freedom, 50 Cent released a new track titled “The Funeral” along with visuals for the song. After much delay and mediocrity, it seems that 50 is back in his zone on “The Funeral” as he sounds natural over this exceptional production.  (more…)

The Weeknd just recently wowed us with his impressive rendition of Beyonce’s hit single “Drunk In Love”. Luckily enough, the Toronto crooner has blessed us again by adding on a verse to Ty Dolla $ign’s song “Or Nah” which originally only featured Wiz Khalifa. The Weeknd teased us with an Instagram clip of his verse awhile back, but we now have the official remix and the singer provides us with more XXX-rated lyrics that will have you replaying this a couple of times back. It is provocative to say the least, and The Weeknd singing explicit tales of his drug/women filled lifestyle is exactly what he’s best at.  (more…)

YG is one of the more buzzing artists out of the West Coast and he is set to drop his Def Jam debut album titled My Krazy Life on March 18th. After building some solid momentum with singles such as “My Ni**a” (ft. Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan) and the Drake-assisted “Who Do You Love”, YG has now released the official tracklisting for the album. There are big names galore as the 14 track offering is set to give YG a huge push in the industry, and we are definitely intrigued to hear if the California phenom can live up to his hype. (more…)

From Russia getting ousted before even getting a chance at a medal to an exciting opening shootout win for the United States against the home country, these games have been filled with excitement. The antcipiation is at an all-time high heading into the semi-final contests this Friday and all eyes will be remaining on the four last remaining teams. Let’s take a look at each match-up and outline what we should expect.  (more…)

We were a huge fan of Vince Staple’s Stolen Youth EP that was released last year. Once known as just an Odd Future affiliated rapper, over the past year or so Vince Staples has developed his own individual artistic identity and hence made a name for himself in the world of hip-hop. 2014 is setting up to be a breakthrough year for Staples as he just got off tour with Odd Future and will now be joining TDE artists ScHoolboy Q and Isaiah Rashad on their Oxymoron tour. Along with his presence at live shows, Vince Staples will be releasing a new LP titled Shyne Coldchain Vol. II that will be largely produced by the legendary No I.D. Staples decided to drop the first offering from the project “Nate”, which features the always exceptional singer James Fauntleroy. The lead single is a smooth cut that is sure to create even more buzz for Staples before his album is released.  (more…)

We recently reported that the Strange Music label had signed Murs to join their team and not too long later, we have another cut from Tech N9ne’s crew. While “Nobody Cares” does not showcase Murs, it is a well-rounded track that features Tech N9ne with his fellow Strange Music collaborators Krizz Kaliko and Stevie Stone. The track is set to appear on the upcoming Strangeulations album that is the latest in Tech N9ne’s Collabos series. “Nobody Cares” is another energetic song from this crew who continue to prove themselves as consistent emcees as the track is a strong first offering off this project.  (more…)

Mastermind season is approaching as Rick Ross’s latest album will be officially released on March 4th. While Ross has already blessed us with lead singles “The Devil Is A Lie” (ft. Jay Z) and “War Ready” (ft. Jeezy), he has elected to feed the streets with another cut off the project to hold us over. The latest release is titled”Nobody”, which is produced by Diddy (who is also executive producing the album) and features none other than French Montana on the hook. While that may not come as a surprise, what is more enlightening is that this track is an ode to the late Notorious B.I.G. as it samples Biggie’s classic line “you’re nobody until somebody kills you”. “Nobody” further elevates the anticipation for Mastermind as the album is setting up to be a heavyweight release of 2014. We all knew that Pharrell had been staying busy after having one of the most successful years of his career in 2013. However, it comes as a big surprise that Pharrell is about to bless us with a solo album….in less than 2 weeks! While we are aware that The Neptunes hit-maker is never too far away from a studio, this announcement was a rather shocking one as Pharrell will be releasing the project titled G  I  R  L on March 3rd. Although Pharrell has collaborated with a lengthy list of notable artists recently, the album will be his first solo album since In My Mind which was released back in 2006. G  I  R  L’s lead single will be the chart-topping song “Happy”, which is #1 on iTunes right now and #2 on Billboard Hot 100. There is no doubt this album will be highly anticipated in the coming weeks and we cannot wait to hear what Pharrell has in store for us.  (more…)
